The big news this week is that Jessica Law and the Outlaws have released a live album from one of our gigs back in the autumn. Pay what you like, and all proceeds go to support The Folk of Gloucester. It’s also bandcamp Friday so if you get in today, even better!
I’ve got some new Hopeless, Maine fiction out over here - https://hopeless-maine.co.uk/2024/02/02/the-rotten-shark/
On the Druid Life blog I’ve reviewed a new release - The Five Minute Druid. I’ve also talked about studying Druidry, issues around being green when you’re ill and what bothers me about the idea of living in the moment.
This week I finished writing a witchlit novel - Ghosts of the Lost Forest. It’s a tale that heads into some difficult territory but is ultimately hopeful. Supporters on Patreon will get to see it first - either an an ebook or as a hard copy, depending on level. At some point in the spring I’ll get the ebook into my ko-fi store where you will already find a selection of novels, poetry collections and non-fic - free or pay what you like.
I shall be part of the Gloucester Folk Trail in a few week’s time - again as one of Jessica Law’s Outlaws. I’m still hopeful that my partner Keith might be able to manage this gig as he’s doing really well at the moment.
I totally agree with your article about illness and sustainability. I cared for my late husband for 10 years. He had multiple sclerosis, diabetes and asthma. We needed an extra bin for all the refuse this created. The amount of disposable plastic used in hospitals is staggering. Public transport was not an option. As for being in the moment, I agree it's neither practical nor always desirable. Happy memories can carry us through difficult times, and negative ones can put our current situation in perspective. We carry a lot of genetic memories that have helped us to evolve. It's the same with toxic positivity. It can be cruel to expect someone going through hard times to "look on the bright side ". A lot of the time being neutral is the best we can manage. Contentment helps us cope, and happiness is a bonus, not something we can enforce at will.
How fantastic! I’ve just been over at Bandcamp getting myself a digital copy :)
