I totally agree with your article about illness and sustainability. I cared for my late husband for 10 years. He had multiple sclerosis, diabetes and asthma. We needed an extra bin for all the refuse this created. The amount of disposable plastic used in hospitals is staggering. Public transport was not an option. As for being in the moment, I agree it's neither practical nor always desirable. Happy memories can carry us through difficult times, and negative ones can put our current situation in perspective. We carry a lot of genetic memories that have helped us to evolve. It's the same with toxic positivity. It can be cruel to expect someone going through hard times to "look on the bright side ". A lot of the time being neutral is the best we can manage. Contentment helps us cope, and happiness is a bonus, not something we can enforce at will.
