Druids and Drag Kings
Here’s a photo of me being very happy while visiting Nympsfield Long Barrow. It’s been a busy week, and things only seem to be getting more bonkers as I go along, but that’s infinitely preferable to being bored.
The Drag King bit then - that will be me this weekend at a steampunk event in Gloucester, being a Drag King In Yellow. Which is funnier if you’re aware of The King In Yellow. Hopefully next week there will be photos. Tickets for the evening part of the event are over here - https://www.tickettailor.com/events/gloucestercivictrustlimited/934505
For this event I’m playing viola for Jessica Law and singing with The Ominous Folk of Hopeless, Maine.
I’ve started a new speculative hope punk sort of novel over on Patreon, and having given subscribers the first run at it, I’ve now made the first instalment available for people to read. This is of course a shameless ploy to persuade you that you’d like to read the whole thing and thus to throw money at me. https://www.patreon.com/NimueB
The final book in the Hopeless, Maine graphic novel series - Survivors - is starting to show up for pre-order in online bookstores. I’ve blogged about it - https://hopelessvendetta.wordpress.com/2023/06/30/survivors/ If you’re inclined to wait for series to complete, the time to grab the whole story arc is now.
I’m involved in an anthology called Tales from the Bookshop, which is having a launch on the 7th July in the Midlands, UK. Details on the publisher’s Facebook events page.
Laura Perry - someone I very much like as an author and as a person - has a new novel out. It’s queer and set on Crete during the Minoan era. I’ve reviewed it on my blog. https://druidlife.wordpress.com/2023/06/27/leap-a-love-story/
For other blog content, I am going to recommend this one of mine about getting things wrong, because I think this is an important issue. https://druidlife.wordpress.com/2023/06/26/getting-things-wrong/
My writing partner David Bridger has a new book out this week. I read it last summer, and greatly appreciated it. This is an intimate look at life on the solitary Druid path, and if the description below is resonant for you then I heartily recommend checking this out. It isn’t a how-to sort of book, instead these are notes from the journey. I tend to prefer these more narrative and less dogmatic approaches to spirituality.
